How i got tricked into parenting myself

Today is an international parenting day, so I felt that maybe I should write a blog about parents, or perhaps it would be more appropriate if they wrote one for me.

The first time I realised that there was something peculiar about the way my parents were parentings, was in junior school. When my friends used to crib about their parents dragging them to tuitions every day. Now this didn’t sound right to me as the only place my parents dragged me to was to the park.

Intrigued, I investigated further and found out that they had timetables at home !

These timetables were like lists, not like the annoying list I had at home which dictated which 5 fruits I have to have that day, but a list with all the activities under the sun allotted to a time slot. In a day, they would have a math tuition, a science tuition, singing class and skating class. I never had these time slots. I thought everybody played, studied and slept like me.

If I had to follow any of those timetables, by the end of the day I would be exhausted.

This was just junior school.

In middle school, things just got weirder. One day in the library, my friend sighed and said – I really really want to read this book but my mother won’t let me till my exams are over. Did I hear that right?

That book was a harry potter book. I had finished the harry potter series in class 3 and here she was cribbing about it in class 8. Doesn’t she realise how lucky she is that her parents don’t madly check on how many books/week has she read and run to the library to get more?

No, turns out not every parent treats reading books like syllabus for an exam. Only mine. (And books mean STORY books).

The last topic I wish to discuss with you is privacy. Nowadays we all have phones, though reluctantly given to me by my parents. And while other parents may check their children’s phones happily, mine refused to even If I force them. So as they don’t do their job, I have to check my phone to ensure I am not doing anything wrong !!!

So you see, as I have to be strict to myself, which results in me being scared of myself, I never do anything wrong. Wait a second…..
